Priscilla and Emanuele Bruno lived with their six children in their home in Chicago, Illinois. The couple gave their children the best of everything and planned to have more babies.

The Bruno family was delighted to find out that they were pregnant with a boy. They couldn’t wait to hold their seventh baby in their arms, not knowing that he would leave this world days after he was born.

The couple’s seventh baby, Giovanni, was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called skeletal dysplasia, which affected his quality of life. Unfortunately, the little boy only lived for five days.

Priscilla and Emanuele were devastated after losing their seventh baby. Never in a million years had they imagined seeing their one-day-old baby die, but they felt powerless against the plans of fate.

After losing their young son, Priscilla and Emanuele became pregnant again. They had been looking forward to hearing the news of her pregnancy, but had no idea that their baby would be born with the same rare condition.
Another baby
Priscilla and Emanuele welcomed their son, Francesco Bruno, into this world in December 2019. Once again, they were excited to hold their baby in their arms, but doctors told them something that turned their world upside down.
“[The doctors] told us [when] he was going to be born, he was only going to live for 30 minutes,” Priscilla told CBS News. The Bruno family was not prepared to lose another baby boy to the same genetic disorder.

Not giving up
It was heartbreaking for Priscilla and Emanuele to see their baby’s pain. His condition made it difficult for him to breathe independently, so doctors put him on a ventilator. His chances of survival were slim, but the boy did not give up.

Francesco defied all the odds and lived longer than the doctors had predicted. Since she had the same condition as Giovanni, her parents were prepared for the worst. Emanuele said:
change of hospitals
As the days passed, the Bruno family saw their little boy fight. They transferred him from one hospital to another, not knowing how much time he had left in this world.

In March 2021, little Francesco was transferred to La Rábida Children’s Hospital, where he stayed until October 2022. The doctors ensured that he was treated in the best possible way while his parents prayed not to lose another baby.
three years in hospitals
Little Francesco spent about 1,000 days of his life in various hospitals before the doctors in La Rabida allowed him to return home. The two-year-old had no idea that there was a whole world outside of hospitals.

Meanwhile, his six siblings were looking forward to spending time with him at home. They wanted to hold him in their arms and play with him. Before Francesco came home for the first time in his life, the hospital staff trained his parents on how to care for him.

“We are thrilled and very, very happy and ready to start a new chapter, a new adventure,” Priscilla said. She and her husband never imagined that one day they would finally be able to bring their baby home.

Go home
On October 11, 2022, little Francesco headed home with his parents. It was the first time he had left a hospital to go home instead of being wheeled to another hospital. The little boy had entered a new stage in his life.

Emanuele confessed to feeling mixed emotions while carrying her baby back home. He felt “happy, nervous, tense, scared, overwhelmed” all at the same time.
She and Emanuele believed that the hard work of the doctors and their prayers were worth it. They never thought that their son would be able to come home.
feeling emotional
As the hospital staff had spent three years with Francesco, they were in tears when it was time for him to leave. While they were happy that the boy was finally going home, they felt that he had become an important part of their lives.

Priscilla and Emanuele thought that their son’s recovery was nothing more than a miracle. They believed that their Catholic faith helped them deal with the worst stage of their lives, where there was no guarantee that Francesco would live beyond the first 30 minutes of his life. emanuele
Francesco’s six siblings sang songs, played with him and showered him with love. Her parents prayed that their baby would stay with them for a long time. They believed that he had arrived home just in time to celebrate his third birthday.

We pray that little Francesco can live a healthy life like his siblings and never have to go back to the hospital. We hope the family throws a fantastic third birthday party for the brave little boy.
