When Abigail, 7, and Cecilia, 4, got lost in the woods, their parents were devastated. But God made sure that these young sisters were not alone. Their loyal dog Artemis stayed with them the whole time until rescue came!
Even a minute of worry is too much for a mother who has lost her children. Still, Mary Bourg endured five agonizing hours of worry, doubt, and waiting when her precious daughters disappeared while playing in her garden.

After showing the emotional family reunion, we get a glimpse of Abigail and Cecilia with their best friend Artemis, playing tug of war in their living room and chasing the beautiful dog in their backyard.
But Mary describes, to the Inside Edition interviewer, the terror she felt when she couldn’t locate 7-year-old Abigail or 4-year-old Cecilia.
Loyal dog protects 2 girls lost in the woods
The two girls got lost in the woods after following Artemis into the woods near her home in Folsom, Louisiana, which is about an hour north and across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans.
She shares how terrified she was, knowing that the sun was going down and that it would soon be dark. The girls were discovered missing around 5:00 p.m. on November 29, 2022. Mary posted a plea for help on Facebook and hoped they hadn’t been taken away, along with Artemis.

Justin tells the reporter that the girls stayed cuddled up to Artemis while they were lost in the woods, keeping warm and together during that time. Meanwhile, volunteer search teams, ATVs, drones, helicopters and more were looking for the frightened girls.
Finally, Mary and Justin found out that they found Abigail and Cecilia! Justin says he “broke down” at the news! They soon learned that it was Artemis who helped the searchers locate them. When he heard the sounds of people in the forest, Artemis barked and led the rescue team directly towards them.
The little ladies and the brave and protective Artemis were found a mile from their home; he hadn’t left the girls for a moment. Without a doubt, Artemis will always have a very special place in the Bourg family!
Surely there’s nothing Artemis would do to get in trouble with the family because she did the best thing in the world when she took care of her daughters!
